Originally my dinosaur gallery project began as an exploration of how the museum has designed the layout of the exhibition. My initial secondary research involved looking at the updates in branding the museum has been through as a whole institution. This led me to realise the the dinosaur gallery itself had been left behind in this update and had not had signage or information updates since the 90’s. This research led me to conduct primary research into signage design and layout.

I decided that I wanted to update the museum information and signage, creating a modern and partly interactive design involving animated dinosaur imagery. This new layout was created to encourage the public to learn more about the discovery of dinosaurs and dinosaur classification using simple icons to assist this. I wanted to create the motion graphics for the signs as my secondary research showed how much of the museum already uses interactive signage. I thought that the contrast between the still fossils and the moving dinosaur diagrams would create a striking contract that would capture the public’s imagination.
